CHAPTER 1 Fellowship with Jesus

1 Which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we were spectators of, and our hands handled concerning the word of the life; 2 (and the life was made manifest, and we have seen, and bear witness, and announce to you the [²life ¹eternal] which was with the father, and was made manifest to us,) 3 which we have seen and have heard we report to you, that also you [²fellowship ¹should have] with us; and [²the ³fellowship ¹indeed], the one of ours is with the father, and with his son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you, that our joy is being full. 5 And this is the promise which we have heard from him, and we announce to you, that God is light, and darkness [³in ⁴him ¹is not ²in any way]. 6 If we should say that [²fellowship ¹we have] with him, and in the darkness should walk, we lie, and we do not observe the truth. 7 But if [²in ³the ⁴light ¹we should walk], as he is in the light, [²fellowship ¹we have] with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we should say that [²sin ¹we do not have], we mislead ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we should acknowledge our sins, he is trustworthy and just that he should have forgiven us the sins, and should have cleansed us from all iniquity. 10 If we should say that we have not sinned, [³a liar ¹we make ²him], and his word is not in us.
